LLM tooling for legal work — built around client confidentiality

Law firms and in-house teams need AI that respects privilege, standardizes review, and bills cleanly to a matter. NemoRouter gives you versioned review templates, matter-level budgets, and an audit trail for the file.

Controls

The four things a legal team needs from an AI gateway

Standardized prompts, confidentiality, matter-clean billing, and a defensible record. Every one of these ships to every NemoRouter customer.

Versioned prompt templates for review workflows

Standardize contract review, clause extraction, and document summarization as server-side templates. Every revision is versioned, so the firm runs one approved prompt — not a personal copy on every laptop.

  • Server-side templates with Jinja2-style variables
  • Every version retained — roll back or compare revisions
  • A/B test two prompt variants before adopting one firm-wide
  • Recommendations surface prompt improvements over time

Confidentiality controls on every request

PII-redaction guardrails strip personal data before a prompt is forwarded, and a configurable data policy lets the firm decide whether request content is logged at all.

  • PII redaction runs in-process on every request
  • Zero-content or metadata-only data policy keeps content unlogged
  • AES-256 encryption at rest; TLS 1.2+ in transit
  • Postgres Row-Level Security isolates every firm and team

Matter-level budgets for clean client billing

Give each matter or practice group its own NemoRouter team with a budget. Per-key spend tracking makes AI cost attributable to the matter that incurred it — straight into a disbursement line.

  • Hard and soft budgets per firm, per matter team, per key
  • Per-key spend breakdown for client cost recovery
  • Daily, weekly, or monthly reset cycles
  • 402 on a tripped hard cap — no overrun on a fixed-fee matter

An audit trail for the matter file

Every key, template, budget, and team change is recorded append-only with the actor, timestamp, and a payload diff — the kind of record a firm wants when a process is later questioned.

  • Append-only — no entry editable after the fact
  • Filter by actor, entity, action class, time, and IP
  • CSV and JSON export for the matter or compliance file
  • LLM request history retained alongside in spend logs
Review workflow

One approved prompt, not fifty personal copies

When every associate keeps their own prompt, output quality and risk become impossible to manage. Server-side versioned templates make the firm run one approved review prompt — and capture every change to it.

Draft → version → run → record

Standardize the review prompt; keep the history

A practice group drafts and A/B tests a contract-review prompt, saves the approved version as a server-side template, and every associate runs that exact version. Each revision is retained, and every change is written to the append-only audit trail.

  • Server-side templates — no prompt copy lives on a laptop
  • Every template version retained for rollback and comparison
  • A/B test two variants on real matters before adopting one
  • Template edits captured in the audit trail with actor and diff
  • Matter team budget makes the cost of each review attributable
1

Draft

A practice group builds a contract-review prompt and tests variants in the playground.

2

Version

The approved prompt is saved as a server-side template — every revision retained.

3

Run

Associates run the firm-approved template; cost lands on the matter team budget.

4

Record

Every template change and key action is captured append-only in the audit trail.

Matter billing

AI cost that maps to a matter, automatically

On a fixed-fee engagement an unbounded AI bill is a write-off. NemoRouter's per-matter teams and per-key spend tracking turn inference into an attributable, capped cost.

Per-matter teams

Each matter or practice group is a team with its own hard and soft budgets and reset cycle.

Per-key attribution

Spend is tracked per key, so every dollar of inference traces to the matter that incurred it.

Hard-cap protection

A tripped hard cap returns 402 — no overrun, no negative balance, no fixed-fee surprise.

Confidentiality — honest status

What we can state plainly about your data

Privilege is not something to hand-wave. Here is exactly how NemoRouter handles legal data.

  • NemoRouter is a pass-through gateway. Prompts are forwarded to the provider you route to; they are not used to train NemoRouter.
  • Content stays out of our logs when you set a zero-content or metadata-only data policy — and PII redaction strips identifiers before a request is forwarded.
  • SOC 2 Type II is in progress (target Q3 2026); a DPA is published and signable. We will confirm the provider data-handling terms for the models in your routing config.
Need the DPA and a data-handling walkthrough for a conflicts or risk review? security@nemorouter.ai will take your team through it.

Legal questions, answered

Is client data confidential — and not used to train models?+

NemoRouter is a pass-through gateway: prompts are forwarded to the model provider you route to and are not used to train NemoRouter. Training behavior at the provider depends on the provider; we route to enterprise-grade provider endpoints and can confirm the data-handling terms for the providers in your routing config. Within NemoRouter, PII redaction and a zero-content data policy keep client content out of our logs.

Can we stop AI cost from leaking across matters?+

Give each matter its own team with a budget. Per-key spend tracking attributes every dollar of inference to the matter that incurred it, so cost flows cleanly into a disbursement line. A hard cap returns 402 the moment it would be breached — useful on a fixed-fee engagement.

How do we keep prompts consistent across the firm?+

Build review prompts as server-side templates. Every associate runs the same approved version instead of a personal copy. Templates are versioned, so you can roll back a change or A/B test two variants before adopting one firm-wide — and every change is captured in the audit trail.

Can data stay in a specific jurisdiction?+

United States is the default footprint. EU residency is generally available on Enterprise, with the UK, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and India available on request. Customer data is replicated within a single region and is never moved without an explicit migration request.
